THE THIRD SPACE, A NEED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

At FEDERICO GINER, we strongly believe that spaces have the power to make us feel. They evoke emotions such as protection, comfort, joy, nostalgia, or sadness, stirring a multitude of feelings within us.

Some spaces pass through our lives sporadically, while others rightfully belong to them. Among all of them, there are two that evolve with us and become part of our journey. Spaces that witness our laughter, tears, enjoyment, and shared moments. One is school, which later transforms into high school, university, and eventually the workplace. The other is home—first our parents’ home, and then our own.

These two spaces are essential in our daily lives, but what happens when we realize they are not enough? When we need another space to feel better? A space where we can focus, take a deep breath, and move forward. We are talking about the third space. A place we must find, whether at home or work, that makes us feel good. A place to sit down and take a short break from the fast-paced rhythm we live in. A personal and intimate space that makes us feel safe and in tune with ourselves.

Aware of the need for such spaces, more and more socially committed companies and universities are creating these areas in carefully chosen spots, where natural light and comfortable, attractive furniture create the perfect setting for relaxation and disconnection. Cafeterias, recreational rooms, coworking spaces—places where one can reflect alone or in company, share, converse, and work. Places to think.

The third space is not only designed to foster communication and interaction through décor, furniture, colors, or layout. It also aims to provide spaces where each of us can break away from our daily routine to breathe. The growing importance of such spaces in our daily lives is already a reality.

The third space is proof of this. Spaces are becoming increasingly important because the needs, concerns, and desires that motivate today’s students and workers are vastly different from those of past generations. In the words of FEDERICO GINER, “The future has arrived!” We are committed to furniture that adapts to people’s needs, creating that much-needed third space in today’s world—where it is crucial to pause, look around, breathe, and reflect in order to keep moving forward.
