Special Reading Corners

How much I love enjoying a good book… While choosing the right story is essential—it must meet certain criteria to captivate us from the very first page—selecting the right place to read is just as important. It should also have characteristics that help us disconnect, letting our imagination soar to past times and distant worlds.

Reading is one of the most beneficial activities for our brain, as it stimulates neural connections and enhances learning. This is one of the many reasons why it is so important to instill the habit of reading in young children. Not only will they find fun and entertainment in the thousands of stories hidden within books, but they will also exercise their brains, boosting their imagination.

Encouraging reading should be a common goal in all subjects, not just in language or literature classes. There are many ways reading influences and benefits the academic and personal growth of students. As parents or teachers, we should be aware of the advantages and benefits that reading offers for children, teenagers, and adults:

  • Boosts creativity and imagination in children. Fairy tales, dragons, and fantasy stories in general can entertain and engage both children and adults, allowing them to escape reality.
  • Expands our vocabulary. The stories in books introduce words that we do not often use in everyday speech, thereby broadening our vocabulary and improving spelling.
  • Makes us more curious. We discover new stories (fictional or real), awakening a deep curiosity about the unknown.
  • Helps us unwind. It improves our attention span and strengthens our memory. We focus our interest, increasing our concentration while processing many new elements that we will never forget.
  • It also enhances our social skills. By reading about feelings, situations, or emotions that we are not experiencing in that moment, we still manage to relate to them. We empathize with the story, transferring this empathy to our classmates, teachers, friends, family, etc.

Creating reading habits is as simple as designing spaces that encourage them, making reading an attractive activity—whether for seeking information, having fun, or relaxing. Reading should not be presented as an obligation, but rather as an enjoyable option.

One way to spark our interest in books is by creating reading corners—creative, comfortable spaces, adapted to classrooms and modern times, with all the necessary elements to generate a positive atmosphere that invites us to enjoy a good book.

At FEDERICO GINER, we offer specialized furniture for creating these kinds of spaces. Thanks to our own designs and our ACTIFLEX collection, we provide cabinets and soft seating perfect for crafting unique reading areas tailored to the needs of both the space and its users.

To make your reading corners as enjoyable as possible for both children and adults, we would like to recommend a few book titles that will captivate you—not just with their stories, but also with the spaces where you read them:

  • Luna (Publisher: Coco Books)
  • Bobiblu (Publisher: Beascoa)
  • Casa de animales (Publisher: SM)
  • La vuelta al cole con el Monstruo de los Colores (Publisher: Flamboyant)
